ATLANTA -- The Coca-Cola Co. said it has partnered with Google to test the new Google Wallet mobile payment system unveiled by the Internet giant in late May.

Google's Mobile Wallet allows a consumer to make a purchase through an NFC-enabled Google Android phone. The beverage venders in the test also will be equipped with credit card readers.

The companies said they will pilot at least 200 vending machines starting in September in San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Google's new payment technology will be featured on both traditional Coke vending machines and new touchscreen Coca-Cola Interactive Venders, which are currently in beta test at select high-traffic sites throughout the country.

Coca-Cola's second-generation Interactive Vender was among numerous equipment innovations spotlighted by the company at the recent National Automatic Merchandising Association OneShow in Chicago.
