HARRISBURG, PA -- Wine vending kiosks in supermarkets across the Keystone State are reportedly back online. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board on Dec. 21 shut down the statewide network of 30 machines that allegedly experienced persistent mechanical problems.

Auditor General Jack Wagner announced a day after the kiosk shutdowns that his office would examine the performance of the devices. | SEE STORY

Simple Brands (Conshohocken, PA), the manufacturer and operator of the wine venders, has repaired and tested them, according to the PLCB, which also conducted its own inspection and test.

The self-serve kiosks, which require a customer to scan his or her driver's license and pass a Breathalyzer test, reportedly contained malfunctioning electronic components that prevented bottles being dispensed, among other glitches.
