ZURICH, Switzerland -- Kraft Foods has announced an agreement with Costa Coffee to offer coffee lovers in the United Kingdom Costa's most popular beverages around the clock, with Kraft's Tassimo on-demand brewer. Costa is the UK's largest coffee shop chain, and the second largest in the world.
Tassimo brewers and Costa cappuccino, latte and Americano T discs will be available in Costa retail outlets in the south west of England beginning in May; they will go on sale across the UK this fall. The Costa line joins a wide variety of other leading brands available for the Tassimo system, including Jacobs, Kenco and Gevalia coffee, Milka and Cadbury hot chocolate and Twinings teas.
Costa was founded by Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971. The company now has more than 2,000 stores in 25 countries. "The Costa-Tassimo range is an exciting new chapter for Costa," said Jim Slater, managing director of Costa Enterprises.
"We're stepping up our efforts to win in the retail on-demand coffee segment, and this new agreement with Costa is an example of that," said Hubert Weber, president of coffee at Kraft Foods Europe. Weber says that Tassimo is the fastest and most affordable single-serve system in the value range.
The Tassimo system prepares beverages at the press of a button with single-serving T disc cartridges. The T discs are encoded with instructions that set the machine to produce optimal results for the particular drink selected. Tassimo brewers are manufactured by BSH Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances.
