PURCHASE, NY -- PepsiCo is rolling out Kickstart Mountain Dew, a fruit-flavored soda that it hopes to position as a morningtime alternative to coffee, tea and juice.
The line extension maintains Mountain Dew's signature taste, but is made with 5% juice, along with an extra jolt of caffeine. It comes in orange citrus and fruit punch flavors. Each16-fl.oz. can contains 80 calories.
Mountain Dew Kickstart contains 92mg. of caffeine per can, compared with 72mg. in regular Mountain Dew. Although it's got a "kick start," PepsiCo said its new drink is not an energy drink like Monster and Red Bull. Kickstart is lower in caffeine than PepsiCo's Amp energy drink, which has 142mg. in a 16-fl.oz. can.
Kickstart by Mountain Dew will be available nationwide beginning Feb. 25. Consumers can visit kickstartfirsttaste.com to request a can before then.
