Big Buck Hunter

GLEN ELLYN, IL -- The 2012 Big Buck World Championship is moving to New York City; the previous four had been held in Chicago. It’s set for the Altman Building in lower Manhattan on Nov. 9 and 10, and will be the first tournament final to be played on the new Big Buck HD.

Play Mechanix, which developed Big Buck Hunter with Raw Thrills, reports that the best players in America are vying throughout September for the 64 coveted spots in the final, competing in an online tournament conducted on games around the country. To solidify their places in New York City, players need to achieve the top scores in the North, East, South and West regions of the country.

Fans were introduced to the new game in regional Big Buck HD events this summer. With cash prizes and a World Championship hotel stay in New York on the line, the regional competitions were well attended, the manufacturer noted. Play Mechanix is giving away the free New York City trip for the main event; fans can enter the sweepstakes on the Big Buck Facebook page for a chance to win two all-access passes to the 2012 Big Buck World Championship plus round-trip airfare, a three-night hotel stay, and a $500 Visa gift card. Five second-place winners will receive a 19" HD television receiver.

Players qualifying for the World Championship will notice upgraded features on the Big Buck HD model, which Play Mechanix describes as the first 1080p high-definition arcade game. Its enhanced connectivity enables players to track scores through online accounts and compete in tournaments against players from around the country for cash prizes, making Big Buck HD genuinely interactive. | SEE STORY

Other innovations include a “showdown mode” that allows players to play live against one another from all parts of the country. Two or more players simultaneously play the same site in a round-robin format. Players can challenge friends from their “friends list,” or locate competitors in a virtual “showdown waiting room.”

Also new are “add-on” tournaments, which offer more opportunities for players to win cash prizes. Add-on tournaments run continuously, with multiple tournaments open concurrently. When players choose any standard gameplay, they have the option to enter their scores in a tournament for an additional $1.

Big Buck HD also integrates with social media. Players can connect their online Big Buck accounts to their Facebook and Twitter pages to share their achievements. They also can check in from Big Buck HD games, display awards on news feeds and more.

Also spurring play is the game’s cashless payment option that permits players to pay with credit and debit cards. Tournament winnings can also be deposited into player accounts. | SEE STORY

The latest Big Buck HD game offers increased flexibility in setup. Operators can now choose from HD monitors in three different sizes, to conform to location space requirements. And its brand-new gun system is designed to offer players more comfort and the higher accuracy necessitated by the high-definition screen.
