LONDON -- The DNA Association is planning a seminar for Jan. 21, the day before the EAG (European Amusement & Gaming) International opens here. The one-day event in London will examine several areas of top interest in the digital out-of-home entertainment (DOE) sector.

While planning for the DNA program is still in the final stage, the main speakers have been already been named. Randy White of White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group will deliver the keynote, which will be followed by presentations on dark rides and 4D/5D experiences from Alterface, Triotech, de Pinxi and Simworx. (A dark ride, also know as a ghost train, is an indoor attraction with guided vehicles that take players through specially lit, interactive scenes. They do not have to be dark.)

Total Immersion will host a session on augmented reality in leisure facilities; Dogfi.sh Mobile, Hide & Seek and Lo-Q will explain how to develop smartphone apps for parks and other leisure facilities; and Animalive will discuss the use of animated characters and motion-controlled VR games.

Mindstorm Entertainment, which develops intelligent surface systems, will deliver a presentation on interactive games in the hospitality market, while Six to Start, which specializes in alternate reality, will talk about opportunities for mixed-reality games.

More sessions are planned, said DNA's Kevin Williams, including one that will identify major trends impacting the amusement, hospitality and retail sectors.

The DNA London Seminar 2013 will take place at the ExCel London exhibition and convention center from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The registration fee is £140 until Jan. 19 (£180 after). Certain association discounts may apply. For information:

First held in 2009, EAG International immediately established itself as a premier product exhibition and networking event for leisure and amusement industry professionals. The 2013 show is set for the ExCel London center from Jan. 22 through 24. Visit eagexpo.com for more information.

The DNA Association is comprised of individual experts and companies developing social and networked out-of-home entertainment products for amusement and theme parks, retail centers and educational institutions, as well as for sports, fitness and leisure facilities. Its formation was announced in this past fall. | SEE STORY
