UPDATE: Affordable Care Act Employer Mandate Delayed One Year
The Treasury Department announced on July 3 that it is delaying implementation of a major provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the President's healthcare reform law. The requirement that businesses with more than 50 employees provide health insurance to their employees, or pay a penalty, is delayed until 2015. Other key parts of the law, including the the health exchanges in which individuals can buy insurance, are still on schedule to open Oct. 1, and the individual mandate requiring most Americans to purchase insurance is not impacted and will go into effect Jan. 1.
