COLOGNE, Germany -- Eu'Vend and coffeena, Europe’s fast-growing vending and coffee shows, kicked off on Sept 19 and runs through Sept. 21 here at the Cologne Fairgrounds.

Eu’Vend was first held in 2003 and co-located for the first time with coffeena in 2011. Eu'Vend-caffeena is sponsored by BDV (Bundesverband der Deutschen Vending-Automatenwirtschaft e.V.), Germany's vending trade association.

The full gamut of vending equipment, products and accessories are on display, and the coffee sector is well-represented, according to Koelnmesse, which organizes the fair.

Indicative of the growing importance of vending to the German coffee industry, the German coffee association (Deutsche Kaffeeverband e.V.) and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe both will exhibit at the 2013 event. The European Vending Association will be present in the joint EVA-BDV booth. Vending machine manufacturers will display the latest brewing and dispensing technology, from tabletop designs to full-sized fully automatic equipment. Suppliers from the coffee sector will also be exhibiting the great variety that exists in the world of coffee.

On Sept. 19, the Eu'Vend "Red Sofa" conference will welcome experts from vending to discuss a range of timely topics. One of the highlights will be the presentation of current market figures for Germany and Europe by BDV director-general Aris Kaschefi and Erwin Wetzel, deputy director-general of the European Vending Association (Brussels, Belgium).

A panel session on Sept. 20 will explore "Vending Unlimited/Coffee Concepts in Progress." Vending Report publisher Eric Schwaab will moderate a panel composed of distinguished industry leaders from Germany and the European Community.

Panelists will include Jan Marc Vrijlandt, Selecta Management AG, a member of EVA's executive committee; BDV's Kaschefi; Eric Schwaab, ES/Vending Report Publishing Group; Frank Epping, Cup & Cino Kaffeesystem-Vertrieb GmbH; Dr. Andreas Ost, Kaffee Partner Holding GmbH; Joachim Höh, Alois Dallmayr Automaten-Service GmbH; Michael Bannick, Tchibo Coffee Service GmbH; Peter Wolf, WFP Consulting GmbH; Ralf Rüdiger, Kaffee + Co; and Udo Gast, Gast Automaten & Service GmbH.

Also on tap on Sept. 19 and 20 is a workshop titled "How Technology Adoption is Driving Business Model Transformation," at Intel's booth. It will survey the role played by Intel technology in expanding the scope of vending, as machines evolve from simple product dispensing devices to intelligent, connected, standalone systems with new features ranging from high-definition digital signs and interactive touchscreen controls, as well as cashless payment mechanisms, to create a more engaging shopping experience for patrons.
