CONCORD, ON, Canada -- Crane Payment Solutions has released a software upgrade for its Currenza SMV bill validator that enables vending machines to accept Canada's new $5 and $10 polymer notes. The new Canadian bills will begin circulating in November.

"As part of our standard practice, we have been working directly with the Bank of Canada to develop software updates, which will be available in advance of the new bills," said David McLaughlin, vending product manager for Currenza. "The early release of the new software upgrade will provide operators the necessary time to update their field base of SMV bill validators well before the release of the new bills."

Upgrading the bill validators is quick, easy and inexpensive, according to Crane. Operators purchase a BlueChip SIM card with the desired number of downloads, insert it into the validator and cycle the power. The validator should be ready to take the new bills in 10 seconds.
