PHOENIX -- MB Media Brokers has begun seeking to bring companies into compliance with its patent related to wireless vending machine messaging. MB Media chief executive David Levine explained that U.S. patent No. 7784643 B1 relates to wireless vending machine messaging, as well as how and where such systems can be retrofitted or positioned within a vending machine.
"It also specifies design features that facilitate the installation of a screen within a vending machine, both as an OEM piece and as a retrofit, so as to prevent problems such as product bridging or hanging within the machine," Levine said.
Levine said he believes that many machines and retrofit kits from several manufacturers in use today employ features covered under the patent, and future machines will also employ them. However, he did not name any.
MB Media began by marketing retrofittable LED signs that display highly visible wireless text-based content in snack machines, and expanded into a new service that will help vending operators and telemetry providers sell advertising space on vending machines and display devices.
"We have noticed an increasing amount of activity around patents of this nature, and feel that now is the right time to announce this initiative, since the passage of time will only make these issues more difficult to solve," Levine said. "As one of the first companies to send media wirelessly to vending machines, and the creator of the first newsfeed service for the vending industry, we look forward to hearing from proactive parties. We hope to give companies within the industry ample opportunity to work with us so that they can position themselves for the future."
