COVINGTON, KY -- The Kentucky Automatic Merchandising Council and Ohio Automatic Merchandising Council will gather for a weekend of business, networking and family-friendly recreation here at the Riverside Holiday Inn June 20 to 22 (Friday through Sunday).

The inaugural Ohio vs. Kentucky Golf Challenge will unite members of the two state associations for some friendly competition on Friday morning with a 10 a.m. shotgun start at Covington's Devou Park Golf Course.

Convention goers will reconvene at 6 p.m. for a shuttle bus to Great American Ball Park for a Major League Baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays. A networking reception will follow in the hotel's hospitality room.

Business is top of the order on Saturday morning beginning with KAMC and OAMA's annual meetings and elections. Representatives from the Kentucky Retail Federation and Ohio Council of Retail Merchants will then bring industry members up to date on legislative issues in their respective states.

A federal legislative update by National Automatic Merchandising Association regional legislative director Sheree Edwards and overview of NAMA's upcoming events by Mary Lou Monaghan, NAMA administrative services manager, will round out the business agenda. Mike Alexander, KAMC president Mike Alexander and OAMC Matt Ryan president will make closing remarks.

The featured speaker will be Jim Watkins, who pioneered microwave popcorn in his former company, Golden Valley Microwave Foods, in the 1970s. He now heads up Popz Holding LLC, which he founded to replicate his success in the microwave popcorn category on a global basis. Popz microwave popcorn, widely consumed in workplace breakrooms, is sold in more than 38 countries worldwide.

A Duck Boat land-and-water sightseeing tour of Covington, Cincinnati and the Ohio River, followed by a dinner cruise, culminate the weekend's social activities.

Convention registration fees are $125 per adult (including spouses and guest) and $50 per child. A discounted rate of $109 per night is available through June 2 by mentioning KAMC.

Separately, KAMC is accepting applications for its "The Good Life" scholarship program in memory of Mark Barsotti, longtime owner and operator of Vendfresh Food Service.

Registration for the convention and the scholarship application are available on KAMC's website.
