Mondelez Unveils Plan To Make Snacks More Healthful

Mondelez well being DEERFIELD, IL – Mondelez International Inc., the maker of Oreos, Chips Ahoy cookies and Ritz crackers, unveiled a strategy to make its snacks more nutritious. The snack giant said it will increase the amount of whole grains in its products by 25% and reduce levels of sodium and saturated fat in them by 10% by 2020.

By 2020, Mondelez also wants 25% of its revenue to come from "better choice" products, up from its previous goal of 20%. The company's BelVita breakfast biscuits, Wheat Thins crackers and Trident sugar-free gum are among the products that already meet its "better choice" criteria.

Another 2020 goal for Mondelez is to increase the number of individually wrapped packages of foods with 200 calories or less by 25%. It also is aiming to put calorie information on the front of packages globally by the end of 2016.

The company is investing $50 million in healthy-lifestyle community partnerships over the next several years, focused on nutrition education and promoting active lifestyles. And it is building on its efforts to protect the environment through more sustainable sourcing, operations and supplier integration.
