DESTIN, FL -- The Southeast Vending Association will return to Florida's Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort here from Aug. 6 to 8 for its 2013 conference. The annual event attracts scores of industry professionals from throughout the southeastern United States for a lively mix of education, networking, entertainment and family fun.
The six state associations that comprise SEVA include the Alabama Vending Association, Automatic Merchandising Association of Florida, Georgia Automatic Merchandising Council, Mississippi Automatic Merchandising Association, Tennessee Automatic Merchandising Association and Vending Machine Operators of Louisiana. All are state councils of the National Automatic Merchandising Association.
The SEVA state councils' members will hold their annual meetings on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Event participants from all six states then will gather in the evening for an opening night party.
An informative slate of educational sessions is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday mornings, Aug. 7 and 8. Highlights include a presentation by attorney Susan Stoffer on "Health Care Reform and the Affordable Care Act: What's Next for Employers?" Stoffer is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP (Columbia, SC), practicing in executive compensation and employee benefits law.
Also presenting at the SEVA conference is Brian Brandt, chief executive of Core Insights (Tyler, TX). He coaches senior business leaders to help them increase their effectiveness and improve their strategic thinking, to build better companies and teams.
National Automatic Merchandising Association senior vice-president of government affairs Eric Dell will review federal legislation and regulatory issues, including calorie disclosure, "healthy" vending restrictions, coinage and currency changes, minimum wage changes and tax reform. He will also review NAMA's recent legislative successes and some upcoming challenges that SEVA states may face.
SEVA's annual Wilbur Langston Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Sandestin Links Course on Wednesday afternoon. Conference-goers will then gather for a cocktail hour and silent auction, dinner and entertainment by motivational speaker, comedian and musician Patrick Henry, who is featured daily on the Sirius/XM family comedy channel.
A beach volleyball tournament on Thursday afternoon will pit players from each state against one other in friendly competition. And SEVA's sponsor-appreciation reception, which gives operators and suppliers the chance to mix and mingle in a relaxed atmosphere, will cconclude the regional gathering on a high note.
