CHARLOTTE, NC -- Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, the nation's largest independent Coca-Cola bottler, has been granted rights by Coca-Cola Co. to expand its territories to include the Tennessee markets of Morristown and Johnson City. Coca-Cola Refreshments USA Inc. (CCR), a wholly owned subsidiary of Coca-Cola Co., currently serves the territories.
The agreement will provide Coke Consolidated the exclusive rights to distribute brands owned by Coca-Cola, as well as other brands that are being distributed by CCR, to customers in the Morristown and Johnson City, TN, territories.
Coke Consolidated will purchase CCR's distribution assets for the territories and will purchase finished goods from CCR to service those customers.
The agreement represents the first phase of the proposed franchise territory expansion between Coke Consolidated and Coca-Cola Co. and is expected to close by the end of May. The companies are working to finalize a deal for the remainder of the territories, including Knoxville, Cleveland and Cookeville, TN, along with Louisville, Lexington, Paducah and Pikeville, KY, and Evansville, IN.
