SEATTLE -- Mayor Mike McGinn has proposed a penny-per-ounce tax on sugary beverages as a way to fund Seattle's parks.

The proposed tax could raise $20 million or more a year to help pay for parks and community center operations, according to McGinn.

The proposal is under consideration by the Seattle Parks Legacy Board, which could make a recommendation to the full city council next year.
