CHICAGO -- The National Automatic Merchandising Association has announced that it has developed a new regional seminar series, "Tech Talks: Leveraging Vending Technology to Increase Revenue." The first will be held on Oct. 6 and 7 at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.

"Earlier this year, we surveyed our membership to determine the key areas of education and research that members most valued, and technology ranked No. 1 as the most sought-after education topic," said Joann DeNardis, NAMA's director of education and certification. The technology seminar series is the first result of this study.

"While the proliferation of technology continues, vending and micromarket operators need to know what applications to install now, while keeping an eye on the near future," said Dr. Michael Kasavana, NAMA endowed professor at Michigan State University (E. Lansing). "This program is a valuable tool for all levels of vending and micromarket operators, and contains best practices for identifying and implementing technology to boost revenue and drive success."

On Monday, Oct. 6, the program will get under way at 12 noon with a series of supplier-hosted meetings and demonstrations, followed by a networking reception at 5 p.m. Current sponsors include Avanti Markets, 365 Retail Markets, BYNDL and Cantaloupe Systems.

The program resumes at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with a series six presentations on topics ranging from self-service technologies to dynamic system operations, digital content management and secure networks.

"This is a one-stop shop for all things tech, and includes many of the key thought leaders in the industry as well as an exclusive look at new products," Kasavana explained.

All participants will receive an electronic manual, "Managing Technology in Vending and Micromarket Operations," to serve as a roadmap for use in implementing new technology, wherever they may be in the process.

The second seminar in the series will take place on Dec. 8 and 9 at the Westin Peachtree (Atlanta, GA). An online registration page is in preparation at vending.org/techtalks.
