WATERBURY, VT -- Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is rolling out two world-renowned coffees as its newest Special Reserve offerings: 100% Kona and Jamaica Blue Mountain.
The limited-edition coffees, available in 16-ct. Keurig K-Cups and 10-oz. whole bean bags, are launching for the holiday season and will only be available while supplies last.
Green Mountain 100% Kona is described as delicate, with dry, chardonnay-like notes with hints of tropical fruit, tart green apple and dried citrus. It has a floral aroma with an almond sweetness.
The Kona region of Hawaii's main island is marked by high elevation, frequent cloud cover, mild nights, and mineral-rich volcanic soil, making it an ideal environment for growing the highly prized beans.
Green Mountain's Jamaica Blue Mountain, known around the world for its exceptional flavor, presents "a heavy body with a silky, smooth finish and is made up of rich notes of chocolate, cherry, and plum, with hints of melon, lemon and lime." It is grown in the higher reaches of the Blue Mountains where rainfall is plentiful and the soil is extremely rich, and where nearly perpetual fog slows the plants' development, thereby producing a denser bean than what is produced in other regions.
Green Mountain Coffee Special Reserve coffees, made from beans that are among the rarest in the world, are offered a few times a year as limited-edition roasts.
