MALVERN, PA -- USA Technologies has introduced a mobile implementation for its ePort cashless payment acceptance system, used in vending and other retail channels. Called ePort Mobile, the solution is designed to give retailers the ability to accept credit cards on the go, in the field, through USAT's secure ePort Connect service platform.
Features of ePort Mobile include three levels of data security -- payment-card data is encrypted twice and transmitted using a proprietary communications protocol. It provides a durable industrial-grade magnetic swipe-reader option designed for commercial applications, and has the ability to integrate its sales and transaction data with the information provided by other USAT products, including ePort GS and EDGE, and the software development kit, for easy access to transaction and operational information across the entire business.
USAT's ePort Connect, a turnkey service, offers ePort Mobile customers merchant account setup -- there is no need for them to establish their own merchant accounts -- and automatic processing, settlement and transfer of money due to the customer's bank account. The service provides online sales and reconciliation reporting that integrates into many existing accounting systems for easy settlement. The company said it has 3,225 customers representing more than 163,000 connections on its ePort Connect service.
According to an analysis by Banking Research Associates, the mobile merchant market is comprised of more than 5.7 billion businesses that account for $233 billion in traditionally check- or cash-based revenue. USAT noted that its entry into the multibillion-dollar mobile payments acceptance market leverages its more than 15 years of industry leadership in helping cash-based unattended retail businesses move into cashless payment acceptance.
The new offering was partly inspired by requests from customers who have expressed the need for an immediate payment solution for route collections, events and other ancillary segments of their operations.
"USAT customers in the unattended space are already seeing how cashless offerings can improve their business results," the company noted. "Now, business owners requiring mobile credit and debit card acceptance can harness similar benefits through a mobile-based technology solution that can expand selling opportunities and reduce costs through less invoicing and improved collections."
USAT chief executive Stephen P. Herbert reported that USAT's mobile payments plan calls for focusing initially on its core markets, including vending and kiosk operations, and broadening distribution of ePort Mobile through its partners. "Finally, a key element will include making certain software available to developers that makes it easy and seamless to direct their mobile applications to USAT's ePort Connect service."
EPort Mobile is currently entering into field trials with select customers; pricing and availability will be announced. Information may be had from USAT sales representatives by calling (800) 633-0340. To view an introductory slideshow, click here.
