New Eyeprize Self-Redemption Game Is Also A Novel Capsule Vending Machine

Big Bear Import Brokers Eyeprize

New from Big Bear Import Brokers is Eyeprize, a novel amusement machine combining a 21.5" touchscreen display with a bulk vender to create an interactive winner-every-time game. It dispenses 4" capsuled prizes.

Big Bear, famous for its Glow Machine and Web Glow Machine venders, conceived the machine in response to a perceived trend. "I developed the Eyeprize after watching my kids play games on my iPhone and iPad," said Big Bear managing broker Aaron Pelto. "I thought, why isn't there more redemption equipment that's touchscreen?"

Following that design philosophy, Eyeprize is supplied with games reminiscent of such popular mobile-device amusements as Rovio's Angry Birds, which are familiar to a very wide customer demographic, and thus intuitively playable.

"What we did was partner with people in game development who wanted the next Angry Birds, and who needed eyeballs on their games," Pelto explained.

"They design games that emulate the most popular iTunes games. Within four weeks of identifying a game we want to emulate, we can have it in the field. And machine owners no longer have to buy hardware to keep up with a trend. We can send them the game on a thumb drive or email it to them. The operator loads it through the game's USB port."

Pelto emphasized that the win-every-time attribute is essential to the machine's player appeal. "We designed the game so everybody walks away happy," he said. "They get high perceived value toys -- small electronics items, jewelry, inflatables or licensed plush figures. We want to provide value to the user." Prizes are vended in 4" capsules that may be used as piggy banks. The machine also has the option of issuing tickets in locations with redemption counters.

The Eyeprize cabinet occupies less than 5.5 square feet of floor space, measuring only 24" deep by 33" wide by 59" high. In addition to its 21.5" primary game monitor, which is protected by a transparent shield, it incorporates a second 15" high-definition "topper" monitor that displays a continuous loop illustrating the prizes available and promoting the company's innovative online redemption program. New promotional loops, like new games, are easily loaded into the machine using the game's USB connector and a flash memory drive. A built-in motion detector triggers the "topper" monitor's video and audio play while awakening the unit from its power-saving dormant status to attract mode.

Made in the United States, Eyeprize features all-steel construction, and is supplied with a Pyramid Technologies bill validator, high-quality, triple-lock theft prevention system, and locking casters as standard equipment. At this writing, the game is available in powder-coated blue finish; a red and yellow styling option will be available in the near future.

"We wanted to bring new technology to the industry," Pelto explained. "We have now raised the bar for the vending and gaming experience. Kids will be happy because there is a new, more exciting way for them to enjoy their favorite types of games. And parents will be happy because their children are getting better-quality prizes for their money."

The new Eyeprize also ties into the very successful online redemption program launched with Big Bear's Web Glow machine. Every prize capsule contains a redemption certificate, at no extra cost to the operator. Players can log onto the website -- webglowmachine.com -- and enter the unique code imprinted on the certificate to record the points earned by patronizing the game.

In addition to encouraging repeat play, the online redemption program can provide valuable marketing data for operators. Pelto reported that consumer information is updated with each patron login to update and deepen a database that the operator can mine for marketing information. It is accessible through the operator's merchant account wherever an Internet connection is available.

To date, the Web Glow online program has redeemed some 71 million points and compiled databases totaling tens of thousands of participants. Web Glow, introduced in 2009, is an update of the original 2006 Glow Machine. Upon its rollout at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions show in 2009, the Web Glow machine won the award for Best New Product -- Coin Operated Arcade and Redemption Equipment.
